Program

Program

Your day begins at the impressive FNB Soccer Stadium on the edge of Soweto, where your guide shares stories about this landmark and its role in local history. From there, you drive past Baragwanath Hospital, the bustling taxi ranks, and the historic suburb of Diepkloof before arriving at Motsoaledi informal settlement. Walking through its lively streets, you’ll pass cafés and craft stalls on your way to a community centre, where you’ll meet residents and learn about daily life in Soweto.

The journey continues into Orlando West, stopping at Regina Mundi Church and Freedom Square for a glimpse into Soweto’s struggle years, followed by a guided visit to the Hector Pieterson Museum. Next, you stroll down vibrant Vilakazi Street, lined with monuments and the former homes of Nelson Mandela, Winnie Mandela, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Time permitting, you may choose to step inside the Mandela House Museum.

By midday, you arrive at the base of the iconic Soweto Towers. Here you enjoy a traditional shisa nyama lunch, browse the craft market, and—if you’re feeling adventurous—take the opportunity to bungee jump from the towers. After lunch, the tour heads back into Johannesburg, where you finish the day at the Apartheid Museum. Your guide introduces the exhibits, and you then explore at your own pace, reflecting on South Africa’s powerful journey toward freedom before your departure.
